Why you should train with Hair By Jennifer Academy

Are you a hairdresser looking to expand your service list? Or are you fed up with your current job and ready for a career change?

Hair extensions can be a very rewarding job, and bring so much job satisfaction. Plus the earning potential can be huge, especially once you’ve built up a regular clientele.

If you are reading this, I can only guess that you have considered a career in hair extensions. It can be very daunting, investing so much money on yourself and your career. So I thought I’d share with you my favourite things about my job and why being a hair extension specialist is such a great career to go into.

1 – Giving your clients more confidence and seeing their huge smile after their service

This is definitely my favourite part of my job. I can’t count the amount of times I have seen girls turn up to an appointment, with visible low self esteem and low confidence. Fast forward a few hours and they bounce out my door with a huge smile, a spring in their step, and a new head of hair. Now I am not claiming that hair extensions will fix all our body insecurities, but they can go a long way to making us feel a bit better about ourselves. Think about how you feel when your hair is a bit greasy, and it’s tied up in a messy bun. Compare that to how you feel when your hair feels at its best. Whether that is in big bouncy curls, or sleek, straight and glossy. Or maybe it is when you’ve had a fresh hair cut.

Your clients coming to you for hair extensions are coming to you to feel better about themselves and give themselves a confidence boost. There is no better feeling than knowing you helped that client achieve their hair goals. Especially when you see yourself tagged in their new hair selfies.

2 – Getting recommendations from your clients to their family and friends

Obviously giving your clients a reason to smile is the reason we do our job. But hearing someone say they were recommended to you by one of your clients is so rewarding. This goes for any business, but when it comes to hair and beauty, I feel like those recommendations mean more. That client is essentially saying that you’ve helped them feel better about themselves, and they want others to feel how they feel. That is a huge confidence booster for us as the professional. Word of mouth is such a crucial part of business. It is vital for building a clientele and it is how I built my client base up pretty quickly. Offer a great, friendly, approachable service, and you will reap the rewards.

3 – Being your own boss

They say when you go self employed, you quit the 9-5 to have a more flexible work/life balance, and end up working 24/7. This can certainly be the case if you aren’t careful. However you are in control of every decision. From your working hours, to when you have holiday, to who you offer your services to.

Do you dream or working 2 days a week and having a 5 day weekend?

Do you love the idea of working 5 days 10-3 to work around the school hours?

Are you a night owl and hate working in the morning but love the idea of working later into the evening so you can have your days off?

Do you want every weekend off and never work a Saturday or Sunday again?

Do you want a week off each month to travel?

Or do you want to graft your ass off and work as many hours as possible to buy yourself that designer handbag? Or book your dream holiday?

Literally, you can do whatever the hell you want. You are in charge. No more holiday request forms. No more minimum wage. No more working hours you hate.

4 – The money you can earn is pretty limitless

I don’t say this sentence lightly. You can genuinely earn a really good income from hair extensions. The average fitting fee is between £50-£150. Let’s use nano rings as an example for working 4 days a week. An average fitting fee of a full head of nano rings is £120.

1 client a day, 4 days a week – £480

2 clients a day, 4 days a week – £960

3 clients a day, 4 days a week – £1440

4 clients a day, 4 days a week – £1920

Using this example, you could technically do 4 clients over 2 days, and still earn significantly more than a full time minimum wage job. And still have a 5 day weekend.

Now imagine you sell retail on top. Each shampoo you sell at £10. That could generate £40-£160 extra a week on the examples above. Sell a shampoo and a conditioner for £20, that an extra £40-£320 a week on top. You are now looking at over £2000 a week!

Now I will add here that these figures require hard work and continued effort. You can’t just sit back after qualifying in hair extensions, and expect to earn these types of figure. But if you put the work in, and really focus on building up your clientele, then these figures are entirely possible.

So I’ve talked you through some of my favourite parts of my job. Now lets see why you should choose Hair By Jennifer Academy to train you in hair extensions.

1 – I genuinely care

This may seem so cliché, but having been in the hairdressing industry for over 17 years, I have seen my fair share of trainees come into this industry, without the right support, and end up quitting before they really begin. I don’t want that for my students. I want to see you thrive. I want to see you building a brand and growing a fantastic reputation. I want to see you hitting the income goals you only ever thought were in your dreams.

2 – I have over 17 years hairdressing industry experience

I started my journey in hairdressing in 2005, aged 15. At 16 I went to college to do my NVQ level 2 and 3 in hairdressing. In 2009 I was offered the role of Deputy Manager in a brand new salon. I helped that grow, becoming Salon Manager in the meantime. In 2017 I trained in hair extensions and set up my academy in 2020. Having ran a salon, and built my own brand up, I am not only able to train you to a high standard in hair extensions, but I can also offer advice and guidance on building your own brand and give more custom advice to you. A lot of bigger academies will train large numbers, and you only learn the basics.

3 – My courses are small numbers (max 4-5 students per class)

I keep my courses small so everyone gets plenty of help and guidance. We cover all the theory, fitting, removal and refits, plus lots of tips on growing your social media, pricing, marketing, and supplier tips. I also offer everyone the opportunity to return to do the course again for free if they feel they need a bit more confidence (although no one has needed this yet). I also offer the opportunity to do a shadow day with me to watch me do a real life client. This does depend on what you want to shadow me in, and will depend on availability and having clients happy to be observed. I’ve only had 1 student take me up on this, but the option is there.

4 – Hair By Jennifer is Award Winning

2021 was a very exciting year for Hair By Jennifer. We placed 10th out of the whole of the UK as Hair Extension Specialist Of The Year with the UK Hair and Beauty Awards.

We then also received GOLD for Hair Extension Specialist Of The Year for the whole of the West Midlands with the British Hair and Beauty Awards.
